Advocacy Proposal

To recap, the issue that has got me the most frustrated today, is the lack of air conditioning in the dorms. Other than the issue of comfort, no air conditioning makes things like studying and sleeping a lot harder. To go more in depth, the hot and humid atmosphere makes it difficult to eat the classic, cheap college meals like ramen and mac and cheese. On top of that, the humidity caused by the hot air makes hanging things on the walls virtually impossible without them falling off and it attracts bugs. After living in a no air conditioning dorm for my freshman year, I’m ready to snap. Few people on campus truly understand the struggle of this issue. My target audience will be the residents of no air conditioning dorms as well as the staff that work there, because there's no way they enjoy coming into work during the hotter months. I want my audience to realize that there are solutions to the problem and to get annoyed enough to tell the administration that this issue needs to be

The Art of Complaining

I like to think of myself as a rather flexible person when it comes to adapting to my surroundings. Moving into a tiny dorm with no a/c seemed like something I could handle. However, what I didn't expect was the humidity in the room making things fall off my walls and the stickiness attract stink bugs. Now that's not to say I didn't come prepared. I came to school with a very large, oscillating fan as well as a desk fan to use while I’m studying. Unfortunately, as the year draws to an end, my large fan broke and I somehow seemed to have lost my tiny desk fan. Don't get me wrong, I love my dorm. The people are great and the food...well it does the job. But I’m having trouble defending it against my friends in the six pack as the year draws to a close and I have to lie like a starfish on our floor to not overheat. I strongly believe all dorms should have air conditioning. I understand the importance of living in a crappy dorm as a freshman as it definitely builds charac

never seen never will

When I sat down to try to come up with something I will never see, it was incredibly hard to do. There's nothing I can think of that I want to see incredibly bad but will never be able to. So instead, I chose something I wont see for a really long time. The aurora Borealis is a beautiful display of lights or rather electrically charged particles form the Earth's atmosphere. The pictures of it are absolutely stunning and it's been on my top places to go for a while. However, there are a few issues that won’t be changing anytime soon that prevent me from seeing them. For 1. I am a broke college student. Like I genuinely had decided if a Mcchicken was in my budget for this week (they took it off the dollar menu :( ). In no way can I go to Alaska, Canada, Or Greenland to see the site. Now my family takes vacations, but none of those locations are places I see my family ever going to. Which brings me to issue number 2. My mother HATES the cold. Genuinely winter is one of her

Chapstick Frankenstein

When first looking around my dorm room, I am presented with many different interesting things that stand out to me. For example, I have a tiny succulent magnet that I am quite the fan of. I also have a light up sign that says “you go girl”. I mean who wouldn’t find that sick as heck. But after some intense ispy around my room, something stood out to me: my chapstick. My chapstick can be identified with the following traits: Pink exterior with dark pink roses and polka dots Black lettering depicting the product description as well as the brand The writing and design isn't directly prints on the tube but rather onto a paper surrounding the tube Said paper is peeling off from the bottom corner It's about 4.5 inches It smells amazing and is a lip scrub To customize it to “make it my own” I scooped out the chapstick that was in the tube, which was surprisingly sticky, and inserted part of a burts bees chapstick I had laying around whose original container was chewed on by my dog. Self Shape

Image
When first reading about this assignment I had a very clear idea come to mind. I was going to draw a rectangle with a bunch of random shapes in the middle. But after I sketched my first idea out, I wasn't all too pleased. Something about the square shape didn't sit right with me as a representation of myself. After a couple more sketches that I ultimately threw away, I came up with this outline. I would describe it as a cross between a train, a dragon, and a bar of soap. I can not fully articulate why this shape spoke to me the most out of my other ones but I will try my hardest anyways. I like that it is wobbly and has some soft edges but some round ones as well. The reason I say it reminds me of a bar of soap is because it made me think of when you’re in the shower and you mould a bar of soap with your hands. Which, I think, describes me. I’m still a bit malleable but I’m learning what my shape is and it will eventually harden.  My design choices were a bit more pointed tha

Becoming Someone Else

I went from virtually no makeup to wearing a lot of makeup and then proceeded to facetime my mother and other family members. Before:                                                                                                                                                      After:     On a regular day I wear an average amount of makeup, usually it's just eyebrow powder and some mascara. I've had this signature look since I learned to wear makeup in high school. I've played around with makeup in the past but I usually only wear the bare minimum. For my physical appearance change I chose to focus on rather dramatic makeup I've seen from instagram posts. I specifically chose to focus on my eye makeup as well as my eyebrows. I was going for a dramatic change that those close to me would surely notice. My goal was to put on dark, dramatic eye makeup because the contrast would be dramatic because of my skin tone. It took a few tries but I eventually got an intense l
